Films and encounters

My first documentary, The Angelmakers, began in Nagyrév, a Hungarian village where women had poisoned their husbands and relatives. Residents’ conflicting memories and everyday conversations became the film. In Mijn Enschede, I returned to the place where the fireworks disaster had destroyed my home.

Other films follow children making their way through the world: a boy preparing for a synchronised swimming competition, four friends facing a separation, callers to a helpline who remain unseen. LUISTER pairs those calls with objects, animals and constructed images. The voices carry the film.

Photographs and the archive

For Constructions of Happiness, I stepped into strangers’ family photographs. For Sporen, I selected images from the municipal funeral team’s archive, encountered while researching Poule des Doods. The work includes making photographs, arranging encounters and working with images that already exist.
